  1. The violation of fundamental human rights has historically had a significant impact on African people's ability to exercise their responsibilities as citizens.

For example, during the colonial era, European powers often violated the rights of African people by denying them the right to self-determination and suppressing their cultural practices. This denial of rights and cultural suppression led to a loss of agency and autonomy for Africans, which in turn, limited their ability to take responsibility for their own lives and communities. In many cases, colonial powers imposed policies that took away African people's rights to own land, participate in governance, and access education and economic opportunities.

Additionally, during apartheid in South Africa, the government institutionalized discriminatory policies that denied basic human rights to black South Africans. These policies included segregation and racial discrimination in education, employment, housing, and other key areas of life. The denial of these basic human rights made it difficult for black South Africans to exercise their responsibilities as citizens, such as the right to vote, the right to participate in political activities, and the right to access essential services.

In summary, when human rights are violated, it creates a cycle of disempowerment and vulnerability that inhibits individuals' ability to exercise their responsibilities as citizens. It is essential that governments protect and promote the fundamental human rights of all citizens to enable them to exercise their full responsibilities as members of their communities and societies.

  2. 1. Right to freedom: Enslaved Africans were forcibly taken from their homes and transported to different parts of the world to be used as laborers without their consent. They were treated as property and had no freedom of movement or choice in their work or living conditions.

Right to family: Enslaved Africans were often separated from their families and communities, and their relationships were not recognized or respected.

    2. The violation of these rights prohibited enslaved Africans from exercising their responsibilities by denying them agency and autonomy in their own lives. Enslaved Africans were unable to exercise their responsibilities to themselves, their families, and their communities because they were stripped of their rights and forced to labor under brutal and inhumane conditions. They were unable to make decisions about their own lives, and their labor was coerced through violence and the threat of further abuse. The denial of their right to freedom meant that they were unable to live their lives on their own terms, while the denial of their right to dignity made it impossible for them to be treated with respect and as equals.

  3. 1) The right to feel safe and secure, the right to freedom and the right to have wages for their work.

    2) Rights and responsibilities goes hand in hand. Therefore the Africans having their rights being violated did not felt like they had to carried out or owe any responsibility to their new their new society.
